Is airbrush tanning safe?
Hi Peeps! Ive been doing a lot of research on sunless tanners (air brush tans). I tanned in beds for years and many of us still do. I decided to ditch the beds last year when we added an airbrush tanning system for the salon. I love this! You instantly have a beautiful natural looking tan for 2 weeks! My skin feels moisturized and not dry like it would after being under harmful uv rays for 20mins.
A lot of our customers(and my staff) had been mentioning to me that they are sure sunless tanners are probably going to be cancerous in no time. A customer had over heard our conversation and replied "well if red lipstick hasn't caused cancer yet"... Very true. This statement got the marbles rolling for me! So, I researched and found out that in fact the California sunless tanning system we use in our salon is completely safe

So I went on the California Tan website and found out that our tanner contains DHA (a sugar molecule that provides a tan appearance in the upper layer of the skin called the epidermis). DHA is FDA approved! This stimulates a chain of chemical reactions that causes the cells in the upper epidermis to turn brown. There is a cool video on their website that explains the process:
I am very estacic that I chose a great tanning system. The first article states to be careful of other tanning lotions containing the ingredient "canthaxanthin"!
